Event: The Paint Network 2 Year Anniversary
Yesterday was an amazing day. I had a wonderful podcast recording for The Digital Coffee Date and then I had the pleasure of celebrating my friend Yainis' two year anniversary celebration for her company called The Paint Network.
You know, networking can be scary. Even for someone like me with a Type A, outspoken, social butterfly, tell it like it is, personality, the idea of walking up to someone you don’t know to talk about yourself and what you do, always freaked me out. When I showed up to Yai’s event I almost felt that itty-bitty fear creeping in, like “shhhh go sit at the bar and look invisible” I got a drink, ate some food, talked to a few beautiful people at the bar, but my soul that was really wanting to connect more, started to scream. It was at that moment that Yai came up to me and said, “Today is a celebration but you are here to network and make connections, so don’t even try to be shy! When you’re ready to network, let me know.” I thought to myself, girl get up and get moving, what are you even doing. I said to her, “Baby, I’m ready!!” She brought me to one of the vendor tables and from there I just ventured out on my own. I met beautiful people, laughed so hard, learned about other women who are just killing the game, and got to talk about my podcast. I had an absolute blast and even won a gown from Wandering Wardrobe Tampa (who was later featured as a guest on my podcast) and won a dress from Renae Restocked! It was a remarkable time. That is what she does. That is what having a friend like Yainis looks like. She is someone in your corner. She is someone hyping you up and getting you out of whatever shell or wall you’ve built around yourself. I’m here to tell you two things today:
1) Continue to break out of your comfort zone. Continue to put yourself in situations that may feel uncomfortable. It’s in those situations that we grow and mold into the powerful women we were meant to be.
2) In conjunction with today’s topic about “Who is in your circle?” Take a moment to reevaluate the people in your life. Do they encourage you, uplift you, and inspire you? Do they challenge you to break barriers and be your most authentic and groundbreaking self?
If they don't, you've got to regroup and make sure you've got the right people in your corner.
