Live. Work. POSE!
Live. Work. P O S E The category is: Open Your Mind. Are we ready to talk today? So recently I binge-watched POSE on FX. As some of you may already know, Janet Mock and
Ryan Murphy are iconic legends. Together with Steven Canals and many others, they created a show that takes you back in time to what life was like in the 80’s for the LGBTQ+ community. Shows like this one really open your mind and expand your perspective. It’s a show that made me laugh just as much as I cried. I was in complete awe of every episode. It truly made me FEEL. I think a lot of us struggle to understand people who are different than us because we think that if we don’t know what it’s like to walk in their shoes, or to live through their traumas, or to feel their pain, that we can’t empathize and respect who they are. The problem with this type of misguided ignorance is that we forget that the most human thing we can do is be kind, compassionate, and love others, regardless of who we love or how we identify. You don’t have to identify as LQBTQ+ to care, support, and fight together for human rights. Just like you don’t have to be black to fight together for justice in a system diseased with centuries of racism. If you’re a person of faith, regardless of what doctrine you believe, I encourage you to learn more about love and love for others within your faith. I also encourage everyone to read more about other people and their experiences which may differ from your own. I encourage you to consume more film and television, whether through drama shows or documentaries that will give you more insight. This is to embolden you to open your mind and enrich your perspective. While doing so, please understand that ignorance is not a valid excuse to harbor or display hatred toward anyone. Shoutout to the incredible performances of MJ Rodriguez, Indya Moore, Billy Porter, Dominiquet Jackson, Hailie Sahar, Angelica Ross, Ryan Jamaal Swain, Angel B Curiel - this show is truly legendary. #pose #poseonfx #vogue #strikeapose #ballroom #lgbtq #humanrights #compassion #love #loveislove #empathy #loveothers
